GOAL in Honduras
GOAL has been working in Honduras since November 1998 when we responded to Hurricane Mitch which devastated many parts of the country. We have continued to work in Honduras in both a rehabilitation and development capacity.

Currently GOAL is implementing two programmes in Honduras.

In Tegucigalpa, the capital city , GOAL is implementing a programme for  street children, which directly supports more than 7,200 street children and indirectly supports 18,600 beneficiaries. Our second programme is an Infrastructure and Disaster Preparedness Programme which supports 18,000 direct beneficiaries and 30,000 indirect beneficiaries, in one of the most disaster prone countries in the world.

Street Childrens Programme
GOAL provides school scholarships and family support to help to  remove children from working in the city dump and  markets .  This support is in the form of providing after school tutorials to help reduce school drop-out rates  across 3 provinces. GOAL established a Vocational Training Centre that provides training for  young women and men in carpentry, welding, mechanics  and arranges work  experience placements for them. The programme also provides HIV, health and nutritional training to staff in Youth Centres; recreational activities for young boys and girls  living in street gang territories;  access to medical  services; dental healthcare; immunization campaigns, and GOAL  provides support to local organisations to manage , address and overcome social  issues within  their communities.

Infrastructure & Disaster Preparedness
GOAL provides training on disaster preparedness and response,  to  help reduce the impact of development gains made in some of the poorest communities in Honduras. GOAL to date  has implemented over 60 construction projects within communities. These projects have ranged from  provision of water services  to rehabilitation of  bridges,  schools, roads and community shelters. GOAL has also been assisting in the development of the schools national curriculum to support education.  We also work  with the local government and train  local organizations in  disaster preparation and response activities.
