Boston Drinks Reception
2007
GOAL
was thrilled with the tremendous support shown by the Boston business
community at the recent launch of GOAL’s Boston chapter, in
the run up to the agency’s 30th year anniversary at the coalface
of development.
With rehabilitation and development programs in 13
developing countries, GOAL has responded to nearly every major natural
and man-made disaster since 1977, spending over US$510 million on
humanitarian projects to date.
“Many
of you in the room are very successful and influential people, who
have accomplished a great many things,” said O’Shea,
“but the most important thing you will ever do is save the
life of another human being.”
“Donating just $13 a month allows GOAL to fed,
clothe and educate a street child in Calcutta for one month. In
a city where 300,000 children are living on its streets, assisting
just one child in Calcutta might seem like a drop in the ocean.
But once you walk among those friendly and courteous children you
immediately appreciate the huge impact those drops are making in
easing the burdens they carry.”
The Consul General of Ireland, David Barry, respected
members of the media including The Boston Globe, The Wall Street
Journal, the Irish Emigrant and the Boston Irish Reporter,
The Sound of Erin Radio, WGBH and WOMR, and representatives
from the Irish Immigration Center and the Irish Pastoral Center
were just some of those who attended the launch in Jurys hotel on
September 12th.
GOAL USA representative, Angela Dean is confident
that the high level of interest at the launch is indicative of things
to come, as the GOAL Boston team begins preparations for its first
gala Ball in spring 07.
GOAL singled out the work of event sponsor, Boston
Jurys Hotel, GOAL advisory members Stephen Johnston, Brian O’Donovan
and Aidan Browne, and committee members Ivan Cuddihy, Ann-Marie
Maxwell, Laura Cuddihy, Triona Buckley, Tara Burke, Noreen Browne,
Pete Estes and Colette O'Neill, for making the night such a success.
