2nd Annual GOAL Mile takes place in Westport, CT

This past holiday, the second Annual GOAL Mile took place at Compo Beach in Westport, CT with over 30 participants and raising over $2,700 for the international humanitarian organization.

Organized by Rachael and Sarah Connolly in Westport, CT, the Mile generated enormous interest, striking a chord with those who are willing to go that extra Mile for the poorest of the poor.  The first Annual GOAL Mile, the first in the US, raised $600 in 2006.  This year Rachael and Sarah decided to look for corporate sponsorship and accomplished this with the help of Pat Kilbane and Garreth Boyle.  Bank of Ireland Global Markets based in Stamford, CT matched all of the money raised through there Give Together Initiative. Rachael and Sarah are extremely thankful to everyone who got involved this year and they are hoping that the GOAL Mile USA will continuously grow.

While the GOAL Mile is a long-established event in Ireland, with the run being a vital part of thousands of families Christmas mornings, it is still in its infancy in the States. But the money raised has been quadrupled from the inaugural Mile – from $600 in the first year to $2700 this year.

This is something that everyone involved in should be very proud of. Your efforts mean that children and families across the developing world will live to see another Christmas – the greatest gift a person can give.”
