| Letter from John O'Shea to Irish Independent
Sir,
The corrupt Ugandan government of Yuweri Museveni has been ordered
to pay reparation of US$10 billion – yes, $10 billion –
to the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo, arising out
of the unlawful occupation of the Congo over a 5 year period by
Ugandan armed forces. In that time the Congo was stripped of much
of its mineral wealth while 5 million Congolese died.
There is little doubt but the Ugandan government will be able to
pay the reparation in full given the fact that they made staggering
sums of money from the illicitly gained gold and coltan from the
Congo.
Does it surprise you then that a nation that can write a cheque
for US$10 billion will over the coming months receive €35 million
of Irish tax payer’s money in grant aid from our government?
Yours etc,
John O’Shea
