As a result of the post-election violence that erupted in Kenya recently, GOAL has launched an extensive emergency intervention which includes the distribution of non food items - including plastic sheeting for shelter, cooking utensils, blankets
and mosquito nets - to displaced
populations. Since the crisis began, GOAL has provided such assistance to over 30,000 vulnerable people who have been directly affected.
In the Nairobi slums where GOAL has a long history of supporting development programmes, our mobile health unit provides medical assistance to those affected by the unrest, and in the Southern Rift Valley we are planning a much needed water and sanitation programme for affected populations. GOAL hopes that the situation will stabilize during the coming months to allow displaced populations to return to their original place of residence. Assuming that this will be the case, GOAL will support such families to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
