The international aid agency, GOAL, will host a drop-in information day on Saturday, April 28 in the Holiday Inn, Pearse Street, Dublin to enable people to learn more about GOAL'S work in the developing world and, crucially, how they can get involved. Dedicated to the alleviation of the suffering of the poorest of the poor in the developing world, GOAL staff members will be available on the day to answer your questions.
GOAL is especially keen to hear from doctors, nurses, nutritionists, engineers, accountants, project managers, logisticians and those with previous overseas development experience. However, the organisation has a wide range of opportunities, and anyone who is interested in working overseas is welcome to attend to learn more about the sector.
"Many professionals we meet are attracted by GOAL'S hands-on reputation for getting the job done, and also the fact that we've kept administration costs low – at less than five per cent over a 30-year period," GOAL'S John O'Shea explained. "While people are often interested in aid work, they usually don't see how their skills can be of use," O'Shea says. "This is a great opportunity for people to hear about what overseas work actually entails, and to ask questions about our experiences in different developing countries." Implementing emergency, rehabilitation and development programmes in 12 countries in Africa, Asia and Central America, GOAL is always looking for qualified, experienced people to join the team. Targeting the poorest of the poor and people' suffering the effects of war and natural disaster, GOAL currently employs 130 GOALies who, alongside over 2,500 locally based staff, implement a variety of humanitarian programmes Since its inception 30 years ago, GOAL has spent EUR400 million on its humanitarian programmes and has employed more than 1,300 GOALies. |
