Sir
As the heroes of past wars are celebrated we should take time as a nation to celebrate the bravery of a different type of soldier: the battalions of Irish men and women embroiled in the war against poverty. These are the doctors, accountants, engineers and teachers who put their lives on hold to go to the service of the poorest of the poor. They are the best amongst us and we are fortunate to have them.
