Letter to the Editor, The Sunday Telegraph, 14th January 2007
Congratulations to Jonathon Erasmus for an excellent report on the Sudanese airstrikes in Darfur (International News, January 7). It is extremely difficult to ascertain what is taking place in isolated areas and vulnerable communities, now that most of the international presence has been forced out, as this aid agency was in December.
Good journalism is crucial in telling the world what is happening, especially as the major powers have prevaricated on intervening effectively to end the violence. Now that information is more difficult to obtain, I fear that "out of sight, out of mind" will become the prevailing mentality for those countries that should be protecting Darfur's six million vulnerable civilians.
